How to not fall prey to fraud and scams

Scammers obtain billions of pounds from the public every year by online, mail, doorstep and telephone fraud.

Anyone can be tricked, so knowing what you can do to protect yourself is important:

  • Never give personal or banking details to cold callers.
  • Consider registering with the Telephone Preference or Mail Preference services to reduce cold calls.
  • Opt out of the edited version of the Electoral Register next time you are asked to update your details. This removes your details from versions that are publicly available.

If you would like additional information about keeping children and young people safe online, please visit the NSPCC website.
